“Fishermen looked out to towards the sea, ignoring the land at their backs, and a stranger was someone from the next village.”
Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn.
The Sailor Smock draws its inspiration from the sails of the Norfolk fishing boats. Made in three different weight fabrics; a heavy weight cotton in a Navy and White Candy stripe, a lighter Samphire Green and White shirting stripe or a paper weight cotton and linen Blue Chambray, all OEKO-TEX certified for sustainability.
Charl pieces are designed to be functional. The smock top has been designed for days when you want to wear something a bit smarter than a T shirt, but still crave the freshness that a T shirt brings. Reminiscent of the fishermen’s overalls with an oversized patch pocket on the wearer’s left. The sleeves are grown-on short sleeve, with a turn back cuff. The curved hem is like shirt tails which look great layered under a piece of knitwear. The Sailor Smock has a neat crew neck – perfect layered under a crew neck jumper or vest with just a tiny peep visible, and is fastened at the back with a key-hole opening and one sustainable Corozo nut button. This piece has been lovingly made in Norfolk by a traditional manufacturer who has been producing maritime clothing and sails for over a century.Designed to be worn on repeat throughout the spring and summer months, this easy shape ensures you’ll always feel comfortable, and understatedly stylish.
