Inspired by the Norfolk fishermen’s Gansey jumpers from the 19th and early 20th centuries, Rook takes its name from Gilbert “Leather” Rook, a Norfolk fisherman.
This piece is a maxi cardigan which doubles as a light coat in spring and autumn. It has been knitted with stitches that are rich in nautical iconography; the main body is constructed in seaweed stitch and has fully fashioned underarm gussets – as the original Ganseys would have had. Deep, horizontal “rung” stitches have been used to knit the cosy shawl collar and the same pattern has been chosen for the deep cuffs which can be turned back – again following the traditional Norfolk patterns.
This garment has deep, practical pockets and can be fastened with a smooth metal pin (provided) , belted, or worn open.
